The Bad Boys series, a monumental buddy action movie starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, seems to be already considering a fifth film. Jerry Bruckheimer, producer of the series, revealed this.

The fourth film in the Bad Boys series, Bad Boys: Ride or Die, was released in the United States on June 7, 2024, and became a smash hit, grossing over $100 million worldwide in just three days after its release. Even in Hollywood's early summer sales season, the film got off to a good start with an initial gross of $56.52 million, despite many films struggling. Regarding the film's unexpected success, Bruckheimer spoke frankly to Deadline, saying, "If you make something the audience wants to see, the audience will come to see it. It's simple. I wish everyone knew what that means." "I don't know what the audience wants, so I make what I want to see."
Sony Pictures and the production team are already in discussions about the fifth film in the series. When asked, "Is the development of the fifth film in the early stages?", Bruckheimer replied, "We've already had discussions, but we want to see how the box office revenue this time is." He said, "We'll have a meeting this week (the week of June 10th)," so it seems that concrete discussions will take place. According to Bruckheimer, the reason the new film was made possible just four years after the previous film, "Bad Boys for Life" (2020), was because of Sony's strong request. "Will and Martin, the director and the screenwriters quickly got together and created a story," he said, which ultimately led to the film that the audience wanted.
"Bad Boys, Top Gun, and Beverly Hills Cop are always nostalgic, fresh, and new. The audience loves the characters. They love Will and Martin, their adventures, and their life experiences. What the audience wants is something that feels the same, but is somehow new. I think we've been lucky enough to deliver exactly that to the audience. [Omitted] People want to laugh. They want to escape from a world where there is no fun or good news, and there's no better place to do that than the movie theater. It's fun to gather together and laugh together. When people start laughing, the whole auditorium gets excited. And when the movie ends, they clap their hands, and when they go outside, they feel good."
According to reports, the production cost of Bad Boys Ride or Die was $100 million. If it continues to do well at the current pace, the fifth installment will not be a pipe dream. Will Smith was in trouble for slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards, but rather than affecting his career, he made a brilliant comeback with this film. Martin Lawrence is also positive about the possibility of a fifth film, saying, "If my brother (Will) is going to keep going, I'm going to keep going too." The movie "Bad Boys: Ride or Die" will be released nationwide on Friday, June 21, 2024.
