On the day celebrating Brazilian Cinema, City of God, a series that will continue the national classic, gained new images. "City of God is a work loved by the public and deals with themes that, even after 20 years, are still extremely relevant, both for Brazilians and for audiences anywhere in the world", said Silvia Fu, Production Director of Content from Warner Bros. Discovery. “We are very excited to finally get this production off the ground and continue this story and such impactful characters.”

With a total of six episodes, the spin-off will take place years after the events narrated in the film directed by Fernando Meirelles and Kátia Lund. The duo returns to production alongside Aly Muritiba (Cangaço Novo) and O2 Filmes, and the story will feature characters known to the public from Buscapé's memories. The new cast includes Marcos Palmeira, Andréia Horta, Roberta Rodrigues, and Sabrina Rosa. The plot takes place in the early 2000s and visits parts of the film in flashbacks, to reconstruct memories and affective memories of the protagonists.

Remember the synopsis of the 2002 film: Buscapé (Alexandre Rodrigues) is a poor, black and very sensitive young man, who grows up in a universe of great violence. Buscapé lives in Cidade de Deus, a Rio favela known for being one of the most violent places in the city. Frightened by the possibility of becoming a criminal, Buscapé ends up being saved from his fate because of his talent as a photographer, which allows him to pursue a career in the profession. It is through his gaze behind the camera that Buscapé analyzes the day-to-day life of the favela where he lives, where violence appears to be infinite. The original film is available on Netflix.
